Chapter 10
Epilogue: staying attentive
This text does not end with a conclusion in the usual sense. Not because something remains to be said, but because what has been developed so far does not point to a closing. It points to a continuity that cannot be written.
Up to here, patterns have been recognized, cycles have been observed, transitions have been legitimized, forms have been introduced with caution, responsibilities have been assumed and limits have been made explicit. That path was not built to lead to a final result, but to sustain a change of position in the face of one's own experience.
That change is not visible from the outside. It is not expressed in declarations, goals or evident transformations. It shows up more discreetly. As an attention that lingers a little longer before reacting. As a perception of familiarity that interrupts the automatism. As a choice made with awareness of the context, even when it remains limited.
None of this can be guaranteed by a text.
The most that can be done here is to offer a reading space where these possibilities become thinkable. From there, the work does not continue in the following pages, but in lived time. In the moments when something repeats. In the instants when a transition announces itself without clarity. In the situations when the temptation to explain replaces the willingness to observe.
Staying attentive does not mean staying vigilant. It is not a state of permanent alert, nor a continuous effort of interpretation. It is an availability to recognize what has already been seen before. To admit when something is familiar. To sustain the pause that precedes the response.
That availability is not constant. It is lost and regained. In some periods, observation deepens. In others, it gives way to reaction. This does not invalidate the path. It is part of it. Awareness does not accumulate like capital. It renews itself or grows dim as the relationship with experience transforms.
For that reason, there is no final recommendation to be made. There is no practice to be prescribed. There is no posture to be held up as an ideal. Any attempt to close the book with fixed guidance would contradict everything that has been built.
What can be said, perhaps, is only this:
when something repeats, observe.
when something becomes confused, locate it.
when something transforms slowly, respect the time.
And when no reading seems sufficient, accept the limit. It does not indicate failure. It indicates that experience has returned to the place that belongs to it.
This text was not written to accompany every step. It was written so that, at certain moments, it is no longer needed. When that happens, it will have fulfilled its function.
The rest does not fit here.
It goes on with the one who reads.
